Well, folks, the Ones have come, conquered and now left the wonderful scene of Extravaganza 2016.
The best summation of the trip is the above photo with father Brian “Moriane” Shepard adjoining son Nicholas “The Tsar” Shepard both adorning Yellow Shirts for their separate 22” rainbow in case of The Tsar and cuttbow in the case of papa Moriane. Never in three consecutive days of fishing has any one fisherman ever landed the number of fish that papa did (over 160 shining pescal specimens did he!); never in one day did eight boats land a total of 310 fish (or anything close to that, btw); and never did so many fishermen land so many fish in such a short period of time. Sure, as with all fishing adventures, some were blessed in quantity more than others but, as is the case this year, everyone is equally blessed by the beauty of the flora, fauna and grandness that is bestowed upon them here in western Montana.
As to the Twenty Inch board, well just yesterday, because of the quantity of fish posted to the board by Dem Ones, I ordered a second board for 2016, and, if your name was not Shepard, you needed not apply during Group One, unless your name was Brad “Pinky” Colton who won a Yellow Hat as well as posting rights for his 20.5” Blackfoot bulltrout. Yes, of the eight entries on the Board, seven of them were by Shepards, with daughter “Beautiful Eliza” posting her first twenty incher along with papa and brother Tsar.
And now it is time for the Tattoos to get their bags packed and begin their crusade this way to see whether they can keep the pace of their brethren Ones as they arrive here on the scene this Saturday and begin their three days of fishing this Sunday. Bueno, bueno, bueno, Twos—bring it on as did Der Ones!!
Best to all from the scene of it all,
Rock Creek Ron
